LSR Headless Guitars                  Steinberger Guitars

Sometimes I get a little charged up when people tell me they love my designs !! They think I build the best guitars in the world Blah Blah Blah.  Granted it makes me feel good to hear this stuff,  However every so often I run into a world class luthier like Steve Klein and I get put in my place real quick.

It is a humbling experience to see some of his incredible creations. Steve Klein.  His guitars and designs are awesome and someday when I grow up, I want to be able to come up with designs like his.

My first experience with Klein was with the old Kleinberger that Ned Steinberger collaborated with Steve on. At first I missed the idea of the guitar. Eventually I realized the genius behind the ergonomic designs.  I have designed many guitars with similar shapes but I must give credit to Steve Klein for his awesome genius in the first place.

Klein Guitar Copy

There are countless copies of Klein's work, Some of them are done well and some of them are just OK.  The one in the picture above seems to be fairly well built.  I disagree with the 4 bolt neck joint, I recommend one in the center and forward, creating a more stable connection between the neck and body.  Also a guitar like this would sound better with solid mounted matched pickups instead of a spring loaded hodge podge of different pickups.  Maybe this guitar sound great, I just don't like the aesthetic of the mismatched pickups. I am sure I could have done something better on that.

Koa Klein Copy

Another Klein look alike with a Koa body. The lower bout looks a little too sharp. Personally I like the softer edge on the real thing.  I have no idea who built this one.  The builder also was too cheap to use good pickups or a quality neck. The neck on this guitar is a Spirit neck which is considered to be very inexpensive and

The Klein guitars are very very spendy, You will pay as much as 3 times as much for a Klein as an Ed Roman Copy. If you decide to purchase an Original Klein please call me and I will give you some thoughts on which models to buy, what to pay and occasionally I may even have one in stock.  I know many Klein owners, so it is also possible that I could locate something for you.
Steve Klein sold his company off to a third party who I think is out of business, No one has heard much for 2 or 3 years. These guitars were also pretty good, but if you want an Original Klein you have to go backwards a way. The same as PRS, Gibson, Steinberger etc...  The Originals hold their value and the new ones are just general merchandise.
