Michael "Duff" McKagan is best known for his thirteen-year tenure in the
hard rock band Guns N' Roses. He is currently the bassist for the hard rock
band Velvet Revolver, lead vocalist and guitarist for his own solo punk rock
project Duff McKagan's Loaded.
Duff's longtime main bass was a white mid-'80s Fender Jazz Bass Special,
which combined a Precision Bass body with a Jazz Bass neck and a set of
Precision and Jazz Bass pickups. The bass has also been replicated and released as a Duff McKagan
signature P Bass model in October 2007 by Fender with a Pearl White finish,
gloss-black neck and headstock, TBX circuit (treble/bass cut), black
hardware and custom skull-engraved neck plate. Several copies of this
bass were also built by the Fender Custom Shop
in the original and various other finishes to be used during tours. He
exclusively uses Seymour Duncan
Pickups and Rotosound swingbass strings. In addition to bass McKagan
also plays an acoustic Guild guitar on various
acoustic songs such as Patience.
